A man was robbed, beaten and killed in north Killeen on Tuesday night.
A victim was pronounced dead at Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights on Tuesday, about 10:07 p.m.
Killeen police officers were sent to a robbery call in the 1500 block of Bundrant Drive at 8:08 p.m. Upon arrival, they saw a man lying on the ground unconscious and not breathing, according to a news release from Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez. The man was later pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.
The initial investigation found the man was in the parking lot of the Morgan Manor Apartments, and he was approached by three or four people. After an argument, the three or four people robbed him and “brutally attacked him,” according to Miramontez.
This is at least the sixth slaying in Killeen since Jan. 1. By this time last year, there had been just two deaths being investigated as homicides by police. Takesha Lareua, 38, died from a gunshot wound on Jan. 24, 2016, and Bo Gene Swetik, 33, was killed on March 4. Both were found in homes. There were 16 deaths that police classified as homicides in all of 2016.
Police did not release the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin. No arrests were announced. Police did not provide any descriptions of the robbers.
Anyone who has information about the death is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477) or go online anonymously at bellcountycrimestoppers.com.
