The city of Lampasas announced Monday the selection of Gary W. Cox, of Cibolo, as the new assistant city manager.
Cox will start his duties as assistant city manager sometime after Jan. 1.
Cox was chosen from a pool of more than 55 applicants after a six-week search process, according to a new release issued by the city.
Cox has most recently been serving as the chief of police before retiring Friday.
During part of his time as the chief of police, he served as information technology director for Cibolo until March 2015. Cox brings more than 27 years of municipal experience to Lampasas.
“I’m honored to be selected; I look forward to serving the citizens of Lampasas,” Cox said. “I really enjoy the small-town feel of Lampasas.”
In addition to his law enforcement background, Cox has also served as interim city manager in Cibolo.
“Mr. Cox’s strengths in public/private partnerships, water issues, development, capital budgeting and project management provided the broad background the city was looking for in an assistant city manager,” Lampasas City Manager Finley deGraffenried said in the release. “We couldn’t be more pleased that Gary has agreed to come to Lampasas. Throughout the interview and background process, we were pleased to learn of Gary’s ability to collaborate, manage tough issues and lead in diverse communities.”
