A man was airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle on Stan Schlueter Loop early Friday morning.

Killeen police responded to a report of a cardiac call with CPR in progress on the 4800 block of West Stan Schlueter Loop just before 3 a.m.

When officers arrived, they realized the man had been hit by a white SUV. The driver of the vehicle told police he was traveling West on Stan Schlueter when he saw a man in the road and tried to swerve, but couldn’t avoid hitting him.

A man driving by stopped to help, and some people from a gym across the street came to help as well, police confirmed.

The victim was first transported to Metroplex Hospital in Killeen, then airlifted to Scott & White in Temple.

Police said his condition was critical upon transport.

Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said she cannot provide the age or any other information about the victim until the crash report is complete.
