HARKER HEIGHTS — A 25-year-old man was killed in a single car accident at 8:52 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from Harker Heights police spokesman Sgt. Steve Miller Wednesday.

Aurturo A. Oniel II, the driver, was ejected from the GMC Envoy during the rollover. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke. The accident happened on U.S. Highway 190/Interstate 14 west of the Knights Way overpass.

The 2004 Envoy was westbound when it veered off the roadway and onto a sloping grassy median, according to Miller. The SUV began to roll over several times onto the westbound access road, and came to a stop in the driveway of a business in the 100 block of West Central Texas Expressway.

The Envoy caught fire, but was extinguished after the Harker Heights Fire Department arrived. A 25-year-old passenger in the vehicle was brought to Scott and White Hospital with injuries. Police did not list the passenger’s condition Wednesday.

Harker Heights police are continuing with the investigation.
