Auvyana Grace won’t be spending her Thanksgiving holiday from school like a lot of her classmates.
The Shoemaker High School junior will be traveling to Houston for the Miss Texas Teen USA pageant on Saturday and Sunday.
The event, which is part of the Miss Universe pageant, is at the Hilton Post Oak hotel.
Grace will be representing Killeen, competing against dozens of other young women from across Texas.
Grace secured her place in the pageant by submitting an application and photo, according to her mother, Necole Grace. “After we applied, she got a congratulations letter.”
Grace may be a natural for the pageant, since she enjoys dancing and modeling. She also serves as a trainer for the football and girls basketball teams at Shoemaker.
Contestants in the Miss Texas Teen USA pageant are judged in three areas — interview, active wear and evening gown.
Prizes for the pageant winner and finalists include scholarships, clothes and services.
