The Harker Heights Fire Department has a new deputy fire chief of operations. On Monday, Harker Heights Fire Chief Paul Sims swore in Cindy Hicks, 56, a 25-year veteran of the department. She will begin her 26th year in January.

Hicks most recently held the position of battalion chief of training. She succeeds Glenn Gallenstein for the position.
