Bill Cooke, Bell County Justice of the Peace, arraigned a man on felony charges Wednesday for allegedly forging a check in his mother’s name.

Curtis Jay Cross, 55, was charged with forgery.

According to the arrest affidavit, Cross’ mother reported a number of checks were stolen from her residence, and believed her son took them.

Six checks totaling approximately $1,365.68 were passed, according to the affidavit.

One of those checks, totaling $400 and made payable to Curtis Cross, was passed. A $100 was placed into Cross’ bank account and $300 was returned to him in cash. Investigators also found surveillance footage of Cross passing the forged check, the affidavit stated.

Cross’s bail was set at $20,000.
