A Carthage man died in Copperas Cove Thursday morning following a collision between a freight truck and pickup truck.

Lampasas County Justice of the Peace Sheila Blackwell Hood pronounced Tommy Branch, 62, dead at the scene of the crash.

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Branch was driving a 1997 Dodge pickup westbound on U.S. Highway 190 at 11:16 a.m. Thursday when he crossed the center lane one-tenth of a mile west of Big Divide Road. His pickup collided with a freight truck with a vehicle in tow.

DPS continues to investigate and had no information Thursday night on why the vehicle may have crossed the center lane. It was unknown if Branch was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
