Law enforcement officials search an area Wednesday morning near Leona Park at Belton Lake, after being notified of an unoccupied boat circling an area near the park. A body was found after several hours of searching. It is believed that a man fell from the boat into the water near the area.

UPDATE: The victim was identified by the sheriff's department as Thomas Buss, 48, of Killeen. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield at 1:25 p.m. and an autopsy was ordered.

BELTON LAKE — Emergency officials were investigating a drowning at Belton Lake near Leona Park on Wednesday.

The Bell County Sheriff's Department confirmed a body was found at 12:50 p.m.

A witness reported at 9:22 a.m. seeing a man fall into the water about a quarter-mile north of the Highway 36 bridge over the lake about 100 yards off the east shore.

The man's boat was circling in the water and some clothes were reported found, but it took several hours of searching to find him.

The Morgan's Point Resort dive team was on the scene helping with the search.
