A local man is facing a felony charge after police said he forged a check from a local church where he was a part-time employee.

Jason Edward Ellis, 29, was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke in a Killeen courtroom Friday on a charge of forgery. Ellis’ bail was set at $20,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, Ellis took checks from the First Baptist Church of Killeen.

Ellis went to a Texaco in the 800 block of East Rancier Avenue in Killeen on Aug. 3 to cash a check for $200, the affidavit stated.

A Texaco employee told police Ellis cashed checks from the church made out to him on two prior occasions.
