A 43-year-old man was in critical condition Friday after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Killeen.
The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of East Central Texas Expressway, police said.
According to the Killeen Police Department, an SUV failed to maintain speed, and hit a Jeep traveling slowly behind the cyclist. The impact pushed the Jeep into the bicycle, and the rider was thrown into a ditch.
The man was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, and was listed in critical condition late Friday.
Friday’s accident was the second serious accident in Killeen involving a bicycle in the past week.
On Monday, an 8-year-old boy was riding his bike in the 4200 block of Cessnock Drive, when he was struck by a truck.
Witnesses said the boy failed to stop at a stop sign, rode into oncoming traffic and was hit by the truck. The boy was transported to McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White in Temple, where he died from his injuries Wednesday.
