House District 55 Republican nominee Ralph Sheffield and Democratic nominee Sam Murphey will square off today in the first public forum featuring both parties since the March 4 primary elections.

Today's event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Texas Homebuilders facility in Harker Heights, 445 E. Central Texas Expressway. It is put on by the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee.

Today's forum will be the first since February, when the four Republican candidates faced off a number of times before the March 4 primary.

Sheffield participated in about a dozen such forums during those months.

It will be Murphey's second forum, since he was typically not allowed to participate at most of the GOP forums.

A second forum will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Belton, sponsored by the Bell Freedom Foundation. It will be held in the main conference room of the Central Texas Council of Governments building at 2180 N. Main St.
