The Texas Department of Transportation will start a $9.5 million U.S. Highway 190 project Monday

The project will add one inside lane on the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway, from W.S. Young Drive in Killeen to Farm-to-Market 2410 in Harker Heights.

TxDOT also will upgrade culverts and other bridges to accommodate the additional lanes and a Jersey wall will barricade opposite traffic lanes.

The project is to add capacity to U.S. 190 from WS Young Drive in Killeen to FM 2410.

Hewitt-based Big Creek Construction will construct the 3-mile project by fall 2014, weather permitting.

Travelers can expect delays, congestion and single-lane closures in the work zone, especially overnight. Motorists should observe all warning signs, use caution when passing near construction workers and equipment, and seek alternate routes when possible.
