BELTON — Wine connoisseurs of all legal drinking ages and walks of life converged to celebrate Nolan Creek Urban Winery and Wine Bar’s first anniversary.

Attendees enjoyed wine and cocktail specials, free food and live music provided by the Joe Young Jazz Band to celebrate a successful year in business.

“Saturdays are busy and we have developed a strong following,” said co-owner Vira Chudasma. “We appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have gotten from the community.”

Located next to The Gin in downtown Belton, the wine bar is the creation of Chudasma and her husband, Phil Monge.

“We enjoy dry red wines and they have a unique selection here,” said Jon Glanzman, a Temple resident.

His wife, Susan Glanzman, said the ambience is “fantastic.”

“It would be great to have more places like this around here,” she said.

The wine bar offers imported and domestic wines by the bottle, glass or case in an eclectic setting. The covered patio looks out over Nolan Creek and the cotton-gin-turned-restaurant next door.

“We came when they first opened up and have been coming ever since,” said Lawrence McCullar, a Harker Heights resident.

McCullar said he started getting into wines about three years ago and likes the intimate and unintimidating atmosphere of the space.

“You can ask questions and learn about different wines,” he said. “When you look around the room you see young people and an older crowd, so it’s a great mix of nice people.”

The Nolan Creek Urban Winery and Wine Bar offers a rotating wine flight of three samplings of wine from around the world for $10 and monthly wine-tasting events. At the party, the owners unveiled a new lunch menu of sandwiches, paninis and spreads. In addition to their current offerings, the menu will expand and they will be open from noon to 2 p.m. seven days a week for lunch later this month.

“If I learned one lesson in our first year it’s to slow down. In my past careers, I’ve always been go, go, go,” Chudasma said. “I go home every night and pinch myself because I am living the dream. None of this would have been possible without my husband, my parents and, of course, our customers.” | 254-501-7567
