Paramedics took a Killeen woman to an area hospital Thursday morning after a house fire in the 1300 block of Gray Drive.

After a 911 call, officials arrived at the residence and closed off one block of Gray Drive about 8:10 a.m., Killeen Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Hawthorne said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 8:30 a.m.

Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Carroll Smith said the woman was treated for smoke inhalation and was in stable condition Wednesday morning.

Two Killeen fire trucks, two ladder trucks and a Fort Hood fire truck responded to the blaze, Hawthorne said. The home is in the Fort Hood automatic aid area.

The blaze was mostly contained to the living room, but the building showed extensive smoke damage, cracked and seared windows, charred siding and a burned doorway.

Firefighters cut power and utilities to the house. Hawthorne said the blaze did not spread to adjacent properties.

Several dogs were on the property, but none appeared to sustain injuries, Hawthorne said.

The fire marshal is investigating possible causes.
