Patio Café serves African cuisine

The Central Texas College Patio Café features African cuisine from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in Bldg. 106.

The menu includes: fish pepper soup ($7 or a cup with an entrée for $1.50); grilled curry chicken salad ($10), house salad ($3.75 or complimentary with a meal). The appetizer is samusas – three delicately fried wraps filled with cumin-spiced beef and refreshing green onions served with a side of spicy peanut butter sauce ($3.50).

The evening’s entrees feature fresh steamed tilapia ($10); meat curry – zesty goat meat simmered in a curry sauce, seasoned with cumin, cardamom and turmeric ($11.50); and luku (chicken) – boneless dark meat chicken simmered in a cumin- and paprika-spiced tomato sauce paired with sautéed carrots, onions and garlic ($9).

Each entrée is served with a choice of two side dishes: jollof rice — a medley of rice and vegetables seasoned with traditional West African spices; green beans with a kick – chilled green bean salad with green olives dressed with lemon garlic vinaigrette; baked sweet potato with peanut sauce; and greens with coconut milk. Additional side dishes are $1.50 each.
