Killeen police arrested a man they said tried to tamper with evidence by swallowing it.
Police charged Terry Lee Lewis, 38, with tampering with physical evidence. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Lewis on Thursday, setting his bail at $20,000.
Officers observed Lewis, who was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle they stopped for a traffic violation, place a baggy containing an “unknown substance” in his mouth as they approached the vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit.
Officers also observed Lewis grab a cup and consume several drinks in order to swallow the baggy and its contents.
He was reportedly overheard saying “too late” when an officer opened the vehicle’s door and attempted to prevent him from swallowing the baggy.
According to the affidavit, Lewis said he had an “addiction problem,” and that his drug of choice was methamphetamine.
In an unrelated case, Leon Lamond Plummer was arraigned Thursday on a charge of assault with bodily injury to a family member.
Plummer allegedly struck his mother in the face with a closed first, according to an arrest affidavit. Plummer’s bail was set at $5,000.
