Killeen and Copperas Cove police are asking residents to look out for a man suspected of attacking women at apartment complexes.

Five sexual assaults have occurred in area apartment complexes in the last 30 days, said Carroll Smith, Killeen Police Department spokeswoman.

"We don't want to give any indication that (attacks are) happening in the same area, people should be aware of (these incidents) everywhere," Smith said.

Four of the incidents occurred in Killeen and one in Copperas Cove, according to a KPD news release Friday. Similarities in the cases led police to believe the individual committing the assaults is the same person.

Each assault occurred around an apartment complex laundry room where a lone woman was approached by a man, the release stated. The suspect brandishes a handgun before sexually assaulting the woman. All of the incidents occurred during the day.

There have been no repeat incidents at a single apartment complex, Smith said.

The suspect is described as a black male standing about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build. He is in his late teens to early 20s with a close-cut hairstyle.

Detectives are asking anyone who sees a suspicious person or vehicle to get the description of the person and the vehicle, including the license plate number and state, and call the police immediately, the release stated.

Detectives are also asking anyone who may have information about these assaults to call Killeen Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS (8477), go to www.killeencrimestoppers.com or call Copperas Cove Crime Stoppers at (254) 547-1111.

A person who provides information to Crime Stoppers that results in an arrest of the person responsible could receive up to $1,000. All information is confidential and callers can remain anonymous.

Residents should always be aware of their surroundings, and the people who are around them, the release stated. Avoid walking alone; either walk with someone, or walk in areas that are well lit or where others are near.
