Killeen police seized gambling devices and $37,000 from Booze Liquor Store and Gateway Food Mart on Rancier Avenue on Wednesday.

Two people were arrested and police seized $37,000 and gambling machines after an undercover operation at two Rancier Avenue businesses.

Killeen police on Wednesday charged Khatri Sagar, 27, and Clara Guzman, 55, with gambling promotion. Police also seized $37,000 in cash after they raided Gateway Food Mart and Booze Liquor Store on Wednesday. The businesses are adjacent to each other and are located in the 4200 block of East Rancier Avenue. Both remained open Thursday.

Lt. Frank Plowick said police expect to make more arrests in connection with the alleged illegal gambling business.

According to arrest affidavits, eight-liner gambling machines were being operated in one of the stores. Customers would play a game similar to a slot machine and then take a voucher next door to claim a cash prize.

After police received several complaints of illegal gambling machines, an undercover officer entered Gateway Food Mart and began playing on an eight-liner. After playing on two machines, Guzman told the officer to head next door to claim his cash prize. The officer then entered the Booze Liquor Store and presented a voucher to Sagar. He then gave the officer cash out of the register.

Guzman and Sagar both remained in Bell County Jail on Thursday. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned them, setting their bonds at $5,000 each. Sagar also is being held on an immigration violation, according to jail records.
