BELTON — The Bell County Commissioners Court on Monday approved the final plat for a new 37-acre subdivision.

The 59-lot subdivision, which will be called La Paloma, will be constructed outside Salado on Farm-to-Market 2884 near the intersection with Sam Neil Road.

Because the subdivision will have only one entrance and exit point and the county limits single-entrance subdivisions to 50 lots, Bell County engineer Bryan Neaves noted that the proposal included a variance request.

Neaves told commissioners that the single-entry point will be large enough for a traffic control device.

The commissioners also presented a certificate of appreciation to James Chandler, the county’s departing director of technology services. Chandler told the assembled elected officials and department heads he had accepted a job offer in Colorado Springs to work in missile defense.

The county also entered into an agreement with U.S. Communities Government Purchasing, an intergovernmental purchasing alliance. Through U.S. Communities Government Purchasing, the county entered into a $38,500 contract with the Garland Company for phase one of building enclosure assessment.

A contract also was awarded to Alamo Distribution for reinforcing steel, which will charge the county 42 cents per pound for nonbending reinforced steel and 43 cents per pound for bending reinforced steel.
