COPPERAS COVE - The Copperas Cove Independent School District Board of Trustees decided Tuesday to enter into two agreements with area nonprofits to benefit after-school programs.
The first agreement will continue to provide the Army Youth Programs in Your Neighborhood run by Copperas Cove Boys & Girls Club for students in the district.
"We started this program last year, and it has been successful," Superintendent Rose Cameron said. "They do use the facilities at both the junior highs for this program."
The agreement the board approved is for the joint use of both S.C. Lee and Copperas Cove Junior High schools. It states that the program will be run at no cost to the district or the students who use the programs, and that the Copperas Cove Boys and Girl Club will use the two schools.
The program was "well used" last year, district spokeswoman Katie Rudesheim said.
It allows for students to stay after school for several activities, including sports and homework study halls until about 6 p.m., said Debra Hull, district safety and student services director.
The second agreement will allow the Armed Services YMCA to place storage buildings on all elementary school campuses where it conducts after-school programs.
"What the Y would like to is build a 9- by 12-foot building to store their equipment for their after-school programs at our elementaries," Cameron told the board.
According CCISD documents, the district will get to pick the color of the building, and the YMCA will place the building close to the school, pay the cost of construction, and insure the building and its contents.
Cameron said the district also will provide the YMCA with regulations for care and maintenance.
The board also took the following action:
Nominated Doug Cook as one of its members to sit as a director for the Coryell Central Appraisal District.
Appointed an additional investment officer for the district.
Added an employee to the investment pool management for the district.
Approved several local policy changes.
Applied for the teacher data portal of the Texas Assessment Management System waiver.
