NOLANVILLE — Tuesday is the final day for residents to cast their votes for a vacant council seat and the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax to provide revenue for street maintenance.

Two candidates, Ernesto Servan, 34, and Dave Brackmann, 55, are vying for Seat 5. Sherri Morales is running unopposed for Seat 2. Seat 4 is open, as Duane G. Hampton, whose term is expiring, opted not to run again, but no one is running for that seat. The council will appoint someone to fill it.

A special election seeks the reauthorization of the local sales and use taxes at the rate of 0.25 percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.

The tax yields about $36,000 a year.

Servan came to Texas as a young and single soldier in 1997 to serve at Fort Hood. After getting out of the military in 2001, he married and decided to start and raise a family in Nolanville.

If elected, Servan said he would like to establish a park system throughout Nolanville, address road conditions and maintain the city’s small-town feel while preparing for growth.

A New Jersey native, Brackmann has been a Nolanville resident since 2009 when he took a job at Fort Hood.

Brackmann, a homeowner and business owner, said he sees “great potential” in the area and wants to see the city grow. If elected, he would like to revive and give the Main Street area a “face-lift” to attract businesses to Nolanville.
