An arrest charge on a candidate for Nolanville City Council was downgraded from a felony to a misdemeanor, police said.

Robert L. Meeks Jr., who was arrested at his residence on Nolan Ridge Drive on Oct. 10, was originally charged by Nolanville police with aggravated assault, evading arrest and resisting arrest following a domestic call, police said.

However, the aggravated assault charge, a felony, was dismissed by the district attorney and Meeks was instead charged with assault with bodily injury to a family member, Police Chief Gary Kent said Wednesday.

Assault with bodily injury is a misdemeanor. Meeks was released from Bell County Jail.
