TEMPLE — Linell L. Davis, a 1966 graduate of Dunbar High School, was overwhelmingly elected Saturday to serve as the District 2 representative on the Temple Independent School District board of trustees.

In a low turnout, Davis received 71 votes and Temikia Brown received 10. A total of 42 of Davis’ votes came during the early voting period, with 29 more received on election day.

Brown received five votes each during early voting and on election day.

Kent Boyd, assistant superintendent for finance and operations for the district, helped monitor the votes.

Although Temple ISD has had a bond election and a tax ratification election in the last three years, it’s been longer since there has been an opposed Temple ISD school board race. “I believe 2010 was the last contested school board election (for TISD),” Boyd said.

Although the turnout was low, those who did vote had a big say in who was elected.

“It’s a big power people exercise when they vote,” Boyd said.
