Republican J.D. Sheffield of Gatesville easily beat Bill Norris, a Democrat from Dubin, to win the race for the Texas House District 59 seat Tuesday.

Sheffield out polled Norris by more than 56 percentage points in unofficial results.

“I think that it shows the turnout for the runoff is still holding, and that people liked what we had to say and how we said it,” said Sheffield.

Sheffield received 36,684 votes to Norris’ 10,209 votes Tuesday, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

Sheffield, the medical director of Coryell Medical Clinic, will take the state office in January from incumbent Sid Miller of Stephenville.

Sheffield defeated Miller in the Republican primary earlier this year.
