GATESVILLE — Daren Moore of Gatesville was re-elected to a third term as Coryell County commissioner in Precinct 2 on Tuesday.

Moore, 44, who has held the seat for the past seven years, defeated Republican primary challenger Ed Thompson of Copperas Cove, 509 votes to 442.

Moore has no challenger in the November general election.

“I am overwhelmed and humbled,” Moore said Tuesday night. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of the county and I appreciate everyone’s support.”

There is no Democrat seeking the seat.

Moore, a native of Coryell County, is a funeral director at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, and is co-owner and operator of Scott’s Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.

Moore was a Gatesville councilman from 1998 to 2002 and was Gatesville mayor from 2002 to 2005.

Thompson, 73, recently stepped down after six years as chairman of the Coryell County Republican Party.

A native of West Texas, Thompson has lived in the county since 1996. He is a retired teacher and coach.
