WASHINGTON — Planting a paltry number on a national disappointment, the Obama administration revealed Wednesday just 26,794 people enrolled for health insurance during the first, flawed month of operations for the federal “Obamacare” website.

Adding in enrollment of more than 79,000 in the 14 states with their own websites, the nationwide number of 106,000 October sign-ups was barely one-fifth of what officials projected — and a small fraction of the millions who received widely publicized private coverage cancellations as a result of the federal law.

The White House raced to reassure anxious Democrats who are worried about the controversial program, which they voted into existence three years ago and which seems sure to be a major issue in next year’s election campaigns.

The administration, trying to regain the initiative, for the first time indicated a willingness to consider legislation to stave off the wave of cancellations that’s compounding the website technology problems.

Some Democrats are seeking changes in Obama’s signature program, and key Republicans, many pressing for repeal, said that even Wednesday’s feeble sign-up figures appeared to be pumped up. The final number — 106,185 people — would be even smaller if it counted only those who finalized their enrollment by actually paying their first month’s premium, Republicans said.

Administration officials and senior congressional Democrats expressed confidence in the program’s future.

“We expect enrollment will grow substantially throughout the next five months,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who is in overall charge.“Even with the issues we’ve had, the marketplace is working and people are enrolling.”

Responding to GOP critics, she said the first premiums are not due until Dec. 15.

The online, state-level insurance markets were envisioned as the new portal to coverage for people who don’t have health plans on the job. But the federal market was overwhelmed by technical problems when it opened Oct. 1, and the experience of state-run markets has been mixed.

For many Democrats, concerns over the cascade of website problems has been compounded by the focus on Obama’s misleading promise that Americans who liked their health insurance plans could keep them under the overhaul.

But millions of people are receiving cancellation notices. They have plans that for various reasons don’t qualify for the law’s “grandfather clause” protection against cancellations.

Obama said he’s sorry people are losing their coverage and has vowed to find ways to address “holes and gaps” in the law.

Advisers originally said the White House was considering administrative fixes, not legislative options.

On Wednesday, Obama spokesman Jay Carney said, “If we can achieve this administratively, we will certainly look at that possibility,” but he added the White House also was considering legislative ideas.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., scheduled an all-Democrats meeting today with White House health care officials.

The lie continues.

I think the truth would be, The people have been led on a wild goose chase with something that in a court of law, would be described as a scam, rip off, fraud and other words to that effect.

Joining as part of this scheme, were the insurance companies at 1st,since they thought they were going to get to be apart themselves , of a major taking advantage of the citizens of the country. By them being Forced to purchase health insurance. Even though this would be, forcing the public to purchase a product ,from a private or stockholder company.
Something that goes against the peoples Constitutional Rights.

But then, even the insurance companies, were forced to 'realize' , they themselves, were not going to profit from the scheme of forcing the people to buy a piece of the Hillary/obamacare package.Instead, were going to suffer also, by being forced to give up millions of customers, by canceling their insurance policies.
Many of these people had been loyal to their company for years.

This year the individual customer/family were going to be forced to purchase Hillary/obamacare, and those who thought they would still have coverage through their company/jobs, were then to be notified in 2014, that even their company coverage would be over or premiums would also increase to a higher amount..

I believe, Its all been a ploy to force the people of the country to buckle under, and go along with the ones who consider themselves in charge of the general masses. Another way to collect 'more money' from the ones who have generally paid the bills for the country, those who do work and pay into 'the system'.

I guess God got sick of the game and decided to step in and let all of the conniving, be brought to the attention of the people. While they still have a chance to put a stop to all of the taking advantage.
God has given a chance to the people, to start raising Holy Heck, about this forced
insurance purchase through their representatives in Washington.
This program Can be Repealed by the Congress, if the people in a majority tells them that is what They want. And insist on it.

How Can the Public Get a Federal Law Repealed?

By Mark Koltko-Rivera,

Federal law can be repealed only by an act of Congress. Federal courts, and if necessary the Supreme Court, can declare a law void, which has a similar effect. Only by acting through these organs of federal government can the public repeal or nullify federal law. Have a question? Get an answer from a Lawyer now!

Form an organization to make your displeasure with the law known to the public at large and to federal legislators. Ideally, your organization would be active in all 50 states. The Internet makes it easier to create and sustain national organizations.

Act of Congress

As the Congress---the Senate and the House of Representatives---makes laws, so does the Congress have the power to repeal them. Citizens can communicate with their legislators to repeal a law that the citizens think should be changed. Keep in mind that the legislator of a given jurisdiction---a senator from Florida, say, or a representative from Oregon -- is primarily interested in communicating with citizens who vote in that jurisdiction. This underscores the importance of having a nationwide organization promoting your concern.

Act of a U.S. District Court

If the concerned citizens feel that a given federal law is a violation of the U.S. Constitution, then they can argue this issue before the U.S. District Court that has jurisdiction over their area. This court may issue a ruling that declares the law unconstitutional and void. Although this does not "repeal" the law, it has much the same effect in practice.

Act of the U.S. Supreme Court

If the U.S. District Court rules against the concerned citizens, then they can appeal to a U.S. Court of Appeals for their jurisdiction. If that court rules against them, the citizens may appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, which has the ultimate authority to declare laws unconstitutional and void. Here again, this does not "repeal" the law, but it a Supreme Court ruling declaring a law unconstitutional and void has a similar effect to repealing that law.
