Election Day has arrived.

Area voters will head to the polls today for multiple races across a number of Central Texas cities. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to several state propositions, area voters have an opportunity to vote on a number of local issues.

Candidates Azeita “Z” Taylor and Marty Smith are running for the Place 4 seat on the Copperas Cove City Council.

Voters in Cove also will be asked to vote on a $6 million bond. If approved, the bond will fund the construction of a fourth fire station and police substation.

Three incumbent members of the Copperas Cove Independent School District’s Board of Trustees — Joan Manning, Doug Cook and Mike Wilburn — are up for re-election.

All three members are running unopposed.

The Gatesville City Council has three seats up for election this year. Incumbent Barbara Burrow is running against challenger Robert Kent for Ward 1, Place 1. Time Woodlock is running unopposed for Ward 1, Place 3. Ronnie Viss is running unopposed for Ward 2, Place 5 on the council.

The Gatesville Independent School District Board of Trustees has two seats up for grabs. Incumbents Mary Ann Leib and Gerald R. Poe are both running for re-election; challengers Mike Harbour and Robin Barthen are running against them for the two at-large seats.

Voters also will be asked to approve a $17.8 million bond issue to build a new elementary school.

Two candidates, Ernesto Servan and Dave Brackmann, are running for Seat 5 on the Nolanville City Council. Sherri Morales is running unopposed for Seat 2. Seat 4 is open, but no one filed to run for that seat.

Residents also will be asked to vote on whether to reauthorize local sales and use taxes at the rate of 0.25 percent. The sales and use tax provides revenue for maintenance and repair of local streets.

Lampasas voters will decide on a tax freeze for senior citizens. The tax freeze would impact 14.7 percent of Lampasas County residents in the 65-and-older tax bracket.
