The 24th annual National African American Read-In is from noon to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Killeen Community Center.

Preregistration is required by Feb. 9 to ensure enough supplies are on hand.

Hosted by Create-A-Smile, the workshop will offer children a personalized book with a story that includes their name, age, friends’ names and hometown.

The books feature black heroes in American history.

The workshop will conclude with book readings by the youth participants.

A meal and drinks are included.
