Public reaction to shooting

Current and former Killeen-area residents took to social media Monday in reaction to the Washington Navy Yard shooting.

Many pointed out similarities to the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood.

“We are a gun culture. This will continue. I am not even shocked anymore.” — Rocky Hernandez Jr., via Facebook.

“The #NavyYardShooting brings back memories of what happened at Fort Hood. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected.” — Michael Dator, via Twitter.

“My prayers for the families and community.” — Cindy Schnack Arsenault Coffell, via Facebook.

“After the shooting at Fort Hood, and the shooting today, at the Navy Base in DC, I think it’s time we let soldiers carry firearms on base.” — Taylor Jones, via Twitter.

“Prayers to everyone there. We were stationed at Fort Hood in 2009 and I know the hell they (are) going through.” — Joie Thompson, via Twitter.
