CORYELL COUNTY – A 22-year-old man stabbed himself in the throat Friday when Coryell County deputies closed in to arrest him on charges he raped a 16-year-old mentally disabled boy.
Christopher Lace Mobley, 22, stabbed himself when deputies arrived at his residence on Bridge Street in Gatesville about 5 p.m. Friday.
Deputies suspect Mobley raped the teen four times in June, a Coryell County Sheriff's Office news release stated.
Deputies spoke with Mobley, but before backup arrived, Mobley went into the home. Police spoke with a woman identified as Mobley's aunt, who told them he went to the restroom.
Deputies went inside the home, broke open a locked bathroom door, but they did not find Mobley.
They later found him bleeding from the neck on the laundry room floor.
Mobley stood up and detectives saw a knife stuck in his neck. Texas Rangers investigated and determined Mobley stabbed himself, the news release stated.
He was airlifted to Scott & White Hospital in Temple. When Mobley was released from the hospital Sunday, he was arrested by Temple police.
Mobley remained in Bell County Jail on Monday on four counts of aggravated sexual assault. His bond was set at $300,000.
