Area residents have several options when it comes to enjoying the Fourth of July today.

Fort Hood

An Independence Day Celebration begins at 6 p.m. at Hood Stadium, located behind the Community Events and Bingo Center on Clear Creek Road.

There will be a DJ spinning the hits, two 1st Cavalry Division Bands performing for the crowd — “Warrior’s Call” covering rock ’n’ roll hits and “Crossfire Brass Band” covering popular music. There will be vendors selling food and drinks.

The evening ends with a 30-minute fireworks display around 9:30 p.m. choreographed to patriotic music.

This event is free and open to the public.


Independence Day activities begin with a parade at 10 a.m. through downtown Belton. A family festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Yettie Polk and Confederate parks along Nolan Creek. The PRCA rodeo is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bell County Expo Center. Get ticket information at


A parade starts at 9 a.m. in Temple’s Historic District. The H-E-B All American Family Fun Fest is from 4 to 10 p.m. in Miller Park, including a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Copperas Cove

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 will conduct a bell ringing ceremony at 1 p.m. to commemorate Independence Day.

The post will start the service with a single cannon volley before local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts ring the ceremonial bell for every state and call out the state’s name.

Food will be served after the ceremony.The public is invited to attend both the ceremony and the meal.

VFW Post 8577 is at 1506 Veterans Ave.


The local American Legion post and the Gatesville Exchange Club is hosting a parade at 9 a.m., beginning at the intersection of Main and 22nd streets.

The parade ends at the Coryell County Courthouse, where a ceremony will be held to honor veterans. A fireworks show will be held at dusk. It can be viewed from Gatesville Independent School District parking lots.


The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8539 will host a fireworks display at dusk at 481 N. U.S. Highway 183 near the Lampasas Cattle Auction.
