SALADO — While radio broadcasting an event in Las Vegas, Alexis Bloomer noticed men in business suits paying extra attention to her. She wondered what they were doing until finally the strangers introduced themselves to her.
Eventually, the men offered Bloomer a chance to host the first national sports show centered around rodeo, horse events and professional bull riding.
“It was a very exciting experience,” said Bloomer, a 2011 Salado High School graduate. “It’s fresh and new. It’s going to cover all aspects of rodeo, such as (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), and (Professional Bull Riders) and anything you can think of in western sports.”
Her show, Western Sports Roundup, will air from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday on SiriusXM’s Rural Radio, channel 80.
The new Rural Radio station launches July 15 and its programming will be dedicated to providing information about rural American life, western lifestyle and agribusiness interests.
Bloomer will broadcast the show from the Dan Rather Communications Building at Sam Houston State University, where she’s a junior studying broadcast journalism.
“My schedule has always been kind of busy, (but my) teachers will be very supportive of it,” she said.
And she already has some big-name guests lined up.
“We have a lot of exciting guests, but I’m not going to give any hints yet,” Bloomer said, adding she’ll feature interviews from some of the “top guys” in every industry of western sports.
“I think a lot of cowboys are going to get behind (the radio station),” Bloomer said.
