Scammers are targeting Atmos Energy customers through bogus emails, according to company officials.

Michael Street, Atmos public affairs manager, said the energy company is warning its customers to beware of emails posing as a bill from Atmos Energy. He said the emails were sent out nationwide.

“The fraudulent billing message references a fake account number and contains links to spam,” said Jennifer Ryan, Atmos media relations director. “The email provides links to view your bill, but if the recipient clicks on the link, it takes them to a compromised website that harbours malware.”

She said the email should be deleted immediately if received.

Ryan suggested Atmos customers log into their accounts via the company’s website to review billing statements.
