GATESVILLE — Coryell County commissioners last week approved the schedule for public notification, hearings and final adoption of the 2013 tax rate to support the Fiscal Year 2014 budget.

Based on the commissioners’ court approval of the budget and tax rate by July 31, final action on adoption of the 2013 tax rate and FY 2014 budget would come in a public meeting Sept. 10.

Dates for published notification and public hearings in the county tax/budget process are as follows:

Aug. 3-7 — Published notice for public hearings Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 for proposed 2013 tax year rate and for increases in total tax revenues (if proposed tax rate is above the effective tax rate, which is the rate that would generate the same revenue as the previous year on properties taxed in both years).

Aug. 7-10 — Published notice for budget hearing Sept. 3 and increases in elected official salaries (if any).

Aug. 12-Sept. 10 — FY 2014 proposed budget posted for public review on county website and printed copies available for public review in offices of the County Clerk, County Judge and County Tax Assessor/Collector.

Aug. 19 — First of two public hearings on tax and revenues.

Aug. 26 — Second of two public hearings on tax and revenues.

Sept. 3 — Public hearing on FY 2014 budget.

Sept. 9 — Public meeting to approve FY 2014 budget and ratify the tax revenue increase reflected in budget.

Sept. 10 — Public meeting to adopt 2013 tax rate that supports the FY 2014 budget.
