TEMPLE — Lillian Laticia Bass, 42, died in Scott & White Hospital on Monday from injuries she suffered in the same June 26 accident that caused the death of her mother, 65-year-old Hazel Nopupi, of Little River-Academy. Bass, whose hometown wasn’t available, had been on life support since Saturday.

The accident that caused the death of Nopupi and Bass happened near the 4700 block of Old Highway 95. Nopupi was driving the car and lost control on the rain-slick road, Department of Public Safety Senior Trooper Harpin Myers said. The Ford Mustang rolled several times through a field before landing on its top.

Two of the four people in the vehicle were ejected. Nopupi was wearing a seat belt but was caught between the vehicle and the ground. Two people were transported by ambulance to Scott & White Hospital, but their names and conditions remained unknown at press time. This was the third serious accident on Old Highway 95 since Jan. 1, Trooper James Hicks said.
