Temple native Matt Maxfield was named the new CEO of Seton Medical Center Harker Heights Wednesday during a news conference at the Shilo Inn in Killeen.

Maxfield will assume the role on April 25.

"I've worked in health care for 25 years, and my philosophy is that if you make a hospital a great place for staff to work and for physicians to practice medicine, you will deliver great care for patients," Maxfield said. "We're creating a new choice for care in Bell County and I'm excited to have the opportunity to work on this project from the ground up - not only building the facility itself, but also building the culture."

Most recently, Maxfield served as CEO of Brownwood Regional Medical Center for nearly seven years.

During that time, he expanded services by adding advanced imaging and new outpatient surgery capabilities. He also is credited with recruiting new physicians and leading the effort to open the first nursing program in Brown County.

He also has extensive experience in Bell County - 17 years with Scott & White.

After serving six years as assistant administrator for Scott & White Memorial Hospital and Clinic, Maxfield was promoted to associate executive director of operations, and led master planning and growth initiatives for the hospital, among other duties.

He also held CEO positions at Coryell Memorial Hospital in Gatesville and Burleson Memorial Hospital in Caldwell.

Maxfield earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas Tech University and a master's degree from the University of Dallas.

He and his wife, Liz, have two children.
