BELTON - The Bell County Sheriff's Office will assist Oncor with a rolling roadblock on Interstate 35 south of Belton on Sunday morning, according to Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jodi Wheatley.

Oncor crews are expected to remove now-dead power lines that cross over the highway sometime between 7 and 9 a.m.

As part of the expansion of I-35, a number of utilities are being relocated. New Oncor power lines have been installed, and the old ones are being removed.

Rolling roadblocks will begin on both northbound and southbound lanes, from Tahuaya Road to Farm-to-Market 2484.

When Oncor crews are ready and there is adequate daylight, sheriff's vehicles will pull out onto the highway, filling both lanes in each direction.

Staying two abreast, these vehicles will move slowly down the highway, keeping traffic moving, but below the normal speed limit. Once traffic around them clears, Oncor estimates the line removal will be completed in three to five minutes.

When the work crews are finished, the sheriff's vehicles will allow traffic to resume normal speeds.

Impact on traffic through the area should be minimal, Wheatley said.

Motorists should maintain a safe following distance behind the law enforcement vehicles and any others between them and the lead vehicles, and not attempt to pass while the roadblock is in progress.
