A Shoemaker High School student was transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a fight in the parking lot led to a stabbing.
According to Killeen school district officials, a girl, whose name and age were not released, was stabbed in the leg by another girl around 1:30 p.m. The stabbing occurred in the student parking lot.
Officials said the wound was not life-threatening. They said the wounded girl walked back inside to the nurse's office, and an ambulance was called.
Killeen ISD police responded and summoned Killeen Police Department officers for backup. KISD spokesman Bob Massey said a response team also searched the school to make sure it was secure.
Massey said the assailant was questioned by Killeen ISD police and after an investigation, she will be charged in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
Massey was unsure whether the girl was taken into custody and transported to the Bell County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program.
Massey was also unable to determine whether the investigation of the incident had delayed school dismissal.
A letter about the assault was sent home with students Thursday afternoon.
"We are committed to the safety of every student and to providing a secure environment," the statement from SHS principal Janet Addair read.
