A student at Shoemaker High School was injured Thursday afternoon while trying to cross a busy street near the school.

The student, who was not named, was struck by a vehicle just after noon Thursday, while crossing West Elms Road during the school’s lunch period, according to Killeen Police Department officials.

A police spokesperson confirmed Friday that the student suffered abrasions and a bump on the head and was transported by ambulance to Metroplex Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was not cited.
