The Bell County Hay Show will be Nov. 20 at the Bell County Expo Center. Registration is at 6 p.m. with a $10 registration fee. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. with a meal.

Larry Redmon, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension forage specialist, will provide an educational program on challenges in forage production, factors in producing quality hay and new pesticides for forage producers.

Dan Gaskins, extension assistant with the Fisheries & Wildlife Department, will give a feral hog update that will include new trapping techniques and designs, current research, CHAMP Grant for Bell County and the impact of the “Porkchopper” Bill.

Lyle Zoeller will discuss beef nutrition and planning for winter feeding with a known hay quality, pasture plant identification. Awards will then be given for the various types of hay entered in the hay show.

Hay samples should be submitted to Temple Feed, Heart of Texas Feed in Salado, Belton Feed Store and Central Texas Feed & Supply in Killeen by Nov. 7. A sample should be a half feed sack of loose hay. Please write name, address and type of hay being entered on the bag. Categories will be coastal Bermuda, other Bermudas, summer annual, winter annual, other perennial grasses and legumes.

There is no cost to enter the hay samples for free protein analysis, but results will only be given at the show Nov. 20.
