A 22-year-old Fort Hood soldier died Wednesday night after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on West Trimmier Road.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the man dead at 8:07 p.m. He did not order an autopsy. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said the motorcyclist was northbound on Trimmier Road at about 7:30 p.m. traveling at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle hit a truck turning left into the parking lot of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church from southbound Trimmier Road.

The man was not wearing a helmet, Smith said.

This article blames the cycilist as the only guilty part in this accident. The action of the truck driver caused the death by not yielding to right of way traffic.

"annon", it was yellow in Colour. Looked like a late-model Suzuki GSX-R. I showed up right after the wreck also... terrible. A helmet may have saved his life, but going the speed limit would have given him time to react... and the truck may not have turned in front of him. It's difficult to correctly judge bike speeds. As a biker myself, I've had some close calls. You expect that they're going 40, but in reality it could be 50-55 and look the same when driving toward you (especially if the truck was slowing to get ready to make a left-hand turn). Another biker down. Terrible.

what color was the motorcycle?

I was at the church when this happened and although I did not witness the accident, I was able to see first hand the aftermath. Excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle was pretty obvious as evidenced by the damage to the truck and the motorcycle. I didn't see any mention of what part the truck had in the accident. I'm sure the cyclist was speeding, but the truck attempted the turn against the oncoming traffic. Sad situation all around.
