A 16-year-old Killeen boy tried as an adult was sentenced to 40 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault.
Alex Pierre Rice was sentenced by Judge Joe Carroll of the 27th District Court for the first-degree felony Thursday. Rice sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl on Sept. 4, 2008, when he was 15 years old.
He was charged as an adult because it was a very serious crime, First Assistant District Attorney Murff Bledsoe told the Herald in April when he was indicted. His bond was originally set at $250,000.
According to Herald archives, Rice's criminal history indicated he followed an adult pattern of living and conduct and he would be unlikely to successfully rehabilitate in the juvenile system.
Court records stated the offenses were premeditated and willful.
Judge Martha Trudo of the 264th District Court sentenced Luis Ricardo Miranda, also known as Luis Ricardo Miranda-Santiago, 45, of Killeen, to two years in prison for assault on a public servant on Feb. 28.
Trudo also sentenced Jackie Angelica Barrios, also known as Jacqueline Barrios, 21, of Moody, to 15 months' state jail for credit card abuse and two counts of debit card abuse on April 7.
