Three 18-year-old suspects were arraigned Thursday on felony burglary charges stemming from an alleged break-in at a home on Zinnia Drive in Killeen.
Arrest affidavits made public Thursday identified the suspects as Reginald Tyrone Mathis Jr., Samuel Delvonte Green and Michael Nikyllius Javacee Hayes. The three are charged with burglary of a habitation. Mathis also is charged with evading arrest.
Their arrests came after a postal worker spotted the three men driving around the neighborhood suspiciously Tuesday, the affidavit states. The postal worker flagged down a police officer about 12:30 p.m. and gave a description of the Dodge Durango the men were riding in. The officer located the vehicle and approached. Hayes was reclined in a front seat, the report states.
Another officer approached a nearby home and saw a man later identified as Mathis exit the front door and flee on foot, the affidavit states.
Mathis led police on a foot chase for several blocks while refusing orders to stop. Officers eventually detained Mathis in the 200 block of Dahlia Court.
Police spotted Green in the backyard, running from the home. An officer ordered Green to stop, and Green jumped over a fence. However, a detective located and detained Green before he could get away.
Further investigation showed that the front door of the home had been kicked in. Police found pillowcases filled with property inside, the affidavit states.
Hayes confessed to acting as a lookout while Mathis and Green stole from the home.
Mathis claimed Green was stealing the items. Green told police Mathis was stealing the items.
Green and Mathis were in Bell County Jail on Thursday night with bail set at $50,000 and $55,000 respectively.
Also arraigned Thursday was Christopher Shannon Willhaus, 25, on an unrelated charge of evading arrest with a motor vehicle. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Willhaus and set his bail at $20,000.
