The Wolfe Road railroad crossing will be closed beginning at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burlington Northern Santa Fe work crews will replace damaged concrete panels. The crossing should reopen around 2 p.m.

Detour signs will be in place to route traffic around the work zone. Motorists should exercise caution and plan for alternate routes.

CTC to Take Back The Night against domestic violence

Central Texas College will hold its annual Take Back the Night event to raise awareness about domestic violence starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Anderson Campus Center (Bldg. 156).

This year's event will feature guest speakers from various community service organizations, the unveiling of the Clothesline Project and keynote speaker Chantel Thomas, host of the radio program, "No More Silent Tears."

Take Back the Night is an internationally recognized event and organized in local communities with the purpose of increasing community awareness about issues of domestic violence and serving as a collective voice for all victims.

Roadwork continues along I-35 in Belton

The Texas Department of Transportation plans several lane and road closures this week as work continues along Interstate 35 in Belton.

From 7 p.m. Monday to 2 a.m. Tuesday, all I-35 mainlanes will be closed from Farm-to-Market 2484 to the Bell County line while crews demolish part of the old Amity Road crossover. Traffic will detour to the frontage roads. After the demolition is complete, the northbound frontage road will be closed as a new intersection is built; follow signs for the detour in place.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, the left lane on the I-35 southbound frontage road will be closed from Central Avenue to Main Street for paving.

Starting Wednesday morning, parts of the northbound frontage road between Temple and Troy will be closed. Flaggers will direct traffic through the area until work is complete.

Democrats extend scholarship deadline

The Bell County Texas Democratic Women have extended the deadline for their "Women Helping Women" and "Richard E. Morgan Memorial" scholarships to April 20. Blood drive Tuesday at workforce center

Workforce Killeen is hosting a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at 300 Cheyenne, in the parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus.

Potential blood donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent's consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving.
