Killeen Arts and Activities Center opens this week

The city will officially open the Killeen Arts and Activities Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday.

The center, at 802 N. Second St., is a complete redevelopment of a former church property in downtown that brings together community service agencies, the arts and civic events in one location.

The new Green Avenue Farmers Market opens for business Saturday at the center during the city's grand opening celebration for the facility.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, activities will include children's story times, puppet shows, balloon twisting, bounce houses, face painting and arts and crafts. Cultural groups will perform in the Performing Arts Center. The public is invited.

Cancer Kickers meet Tuesday in Killeen

The Cancer Kickers support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sue Mayborn Women's Center at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the center's conference room.

Political forums in Killeen next month

Two political forums are scheduled in April at the Killeen Community Center in room 150.

Killeen school board and Killeen mayoral candidates will attend the forum from 6 to 9:30 p.m. April 11.

Candidates for Killeen at-large and Districts 1 and 2 council seats will attend the forum from 6 to 9:30 p.m. April 13.

Refreshments will be served at both forums. The public is invited to question the candidates.

The forums are co-sponsored by the Killeen Branch NAACP, League of United Latin American Citizens Council 4535, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Senior center hosts dance Tuesday

A Dance with Paul Wikoff event will be at the Lions Club Park Senior Center from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

All members and area seniors are invited to attend. Cost is $3 per person. Please bring a snack to share, if possible.

Members are invited to come to the Lions Club Park Senior Center every Tuesday evening as the center now has extended hours, 8 a.m. to

9:30 p.m.

All other areas of the senior center are open for members' use. The Lions Club Park Senior Center is located at 1700-B E. Stan Schlueter Loop in Killeen.

Teen accused of fatally injuring baby

SAN ANTONIO - An 18-year-old San Antonio teenager has been accused of fatally injuring his girlfriend's

5-month-old infant boy.

Antonio Santos Garcia-Vera is charged with knowingly injuring a child, causing serious bodily injury, the San Antonio Express-News reported Sunday. Bail was set at $1 million.
