State of City address tonight in Killeen

Mayor Dan Corbin plans to give an update on city business and an outlook on 2013 at the State of the City Address and Town Hall Meeting at 6 p.m. today at Killeen City Hall, 101 N. College St.

The public is encouraged to attend and will be allowed to ask questions or make comments to the mayor during the session.

Those who wish to participate but cannot attend may email questions and comments to hshine@killeentexas.gov by 5 p.m.

The address will air live on the city’s government channel, Time Warner Cable Channel 10-10, and will be streamed live at www.killeentexas.gov.

State of the County address Wednesday

Bell County Judge Jon Burrows will give a State of the County address at the Central Texas Republican Women’s luncheon.

The meeting begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple. A luncheon begins at noon and is $15 per person.

Anyone interested in meeting Burrows or interested in joining the Central Texas Republican Women is welcome to attend.

Driver safety class Tuesday in Belton

The Belton Senior Activity Center is sponsoring the AARP Driver Safety Program from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The cost of the class is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 25. Attendees must bring their AARP membership card and driver’s license and report at 11:30 a.m. to complete paperwork.

The activity center is at 842 S. Mitchell St., Belton.

Dementia workshop Thursday in Belton

A “Communicating With Someone Who Has Dementia” workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Central Texas Council of Governments building at 2180 N. Main St., Belton.

The presentation focuses on communication types, communication strategies and demonstration of methods to enhance communication.

Bell County Dems to meet Thursday

The County Executive Committee of the Bell County Democratic Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the AgriLife building, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.

All Democratic precinct chairs are urged to attend.

Chronic disease class starts Jan. 28

The Chronic Disease Self-Management program is from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Jan. 28 through March 11 at Lions Club Park Senior Center, 1700 W. Stan Schlueter Loop, Killeen.

Topics covered are managing symptoms; working with health care professionals; making informed treatment decisions; the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition; setting weekly goals; and more.

Diabetes six-week workshop to begin Jan. 28 in Belton

The Diabetes Self-Management program is from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 28 through March 11 at the Belton Senior Activity Center, 842 S. Mitchell St., Belton.

There will be no class Feb. 18.

This is a six-week workshop for individuals with diabetes and their families or caregivers. This workshop finds practical ways to manage diabetes; prevent or delay complications; discover the importance of staying physically active; formulate a healthy eating plan; and communicate more effectively with family, friends and health care professionals.
