New Beginning club meets this afternoon

A New Beginning club meeting is from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Belton Senior Activity Center.

Refreshments will be served after a short program.

The club offers an opportunity for social interaction and fellowship with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

Learn about Master Naturalists Tuesday

The Texas Master Naturalist Central Texas Chapter is having an orientation session from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the AgriLife Building, 1605 N. Main St. in Belton.

The orientation will provide an overview of the seven training sessions for 2012. It is designed for registered trainees and for residents who want to learn more about Texas Master Naturalists.

Pipe bomb found at N. Texas garage sale

WICHITA FALLS - Authorities say a pipe bomb was found at a North Texas house during a garage sale.

People and nearby homes in Wichita Falls were evacuated after the pipe bomb was discovered Saturday afternoon.

The military canine unit from nearby Sheppard Air Force Base and a bomb squad from Denton arrived to help.

The Wichita Falls Times Record News reported that the area was blocked off for at least five hours.

John Spraggins of the Wichita Falls Police Department said the bomb was secured and nobody was injured.

Authorities have no suspects. The investigation will be led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Wichita Falls police and fire departments.

Wichita Falls is about 130 miles northwest of Dallas and near the Oklahoma border.

1 boy dies, 1 hurt after car strikes them on porch

HOUSTON - Houston police say a 7-year-old boy died and a 4-year-old suffered serious injuries after a suspected drunken driver crashed into their porch.

Police said the older boy died after being hit Saturday night. The younger boy remains hospitalized Sunday with burns over about 40 percent of his body.

Houston police said Luis Hector Lopez-Rodriguez was arrested and faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. The 27-year-old driver reportedly wasn't hurt in the crash.

Officers said the boys and a man were grilling on the porch when the car crossed a median and hit their apartment complex. The car stopped after smashing into a front door.

Worker fatally hit by truck at DFW Airport

GRAPEVINE - A catering company employee was hit by a truck and killed in a loading dock area at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

DFW Airport spokesman David Magana said the man worked for LSG SkyChefs and was hit by one of the company's large catering trucks.
