Agencies conducting immunization clinics

The state of Texas requires several immunizations before children can start school.

With the start of school just over two weeks away, several area agencies are conducting low- and no-cost immunization clinics this week, with the first one scheduled today in Lampasas.

Other clinics have scheduled extended hours.

Parents may elect to obtain the shots while visiting their primary care physician as well.

Free immunizations are given at local fire departments on the dates listed. At other locations, prices vary. A parent or guardian must accompany children. Bring shot records and identification.

Killeen

n Killeen Fire Department Training Center building, 201 N. 28th St., across from Conder Park, on Aug. 5 and Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free for children under 18. Call 201-0275.

n Bell County Health Department, 309 N. Second St. in Killeen offers immunizations every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for one shot, or $15 for two or more shots per child. The department's Temple location offers the shots on Wednesdays at the same time. Call 526-5262.

Fort Hood

n Darnall Family Care Clinic will have School Immunization Clinics on Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Charles Thomas Moore Health Clinic at the corner of 58th Street and 761st Battalion Ave. on Fort Hood. Children ages 4 through 18 are eligible. Appointments are necessary. Call the Patient Appointment Service, 288-8888 or 288-7777 to cancel.

n For walk-in service, military dependent children ages 5 and older can be taken by a parent to the Allergy Clinic (285-6335) at Thomas Moore Health Clinic on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring military ID cards, immunization cards, and medical records. Appointments may also be made with the child's primary care physician.

Copperas Cove

n Copperas Cove Fire Department, 415 S. Main St., Copperas Cove on the first Saturday of every month from 8 to 11 a.m. The cost is free. Call 547-2514.

CCFD Aug. 5 clinic will have extended hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is free. Call 547-2514.

Lampasas

n Texas Department of Health, 500 E. Eighth St. in Lampasas on every Thursday in August from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m. The cost is based on the sliding scale. Dates and times are subject to changes. Call (512) 556-5421.

The department will also offer immunizations today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lampasas Middle School during open enrollment and on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lampasas First Baptist Church during their open enrollment.

Gatesville

n Texas Department of Health at 211 N. Lutterloh Street, offers immunizations every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is based on the sliding scale. Call 865-7483 for directions.
