BELTON Despite the welcome rain over the weekend, Bell County commissioners on Monday de-clined to lift the countywide burn ban. We will continue the burn ban with special provisions for agricultural burns, Bell County Commissioner John Fisher said at Mondays meeting.

The burn ban has been in effect since October and has been reinstated every 30 days.

Fisher said anyone wanting to do an agricultural burn needs to go through the Bell County Agricul-ture Extension Office. Burning trash is still prohibited.

Over the weekend, areas of the county received between half an inch and 2 inches of rainfall.

Despite the relief the rain brought, it still wasnt enough.

Its a volatile situation even though we have received rain, Bell County Fire Marshal Steve Casey said. The sunny days and harsh winds will dry it out.

Fisher said that if more rain comes this week, the commissioners will review the burn ban again next Monday.

The Weather Channel predicts a chance of rain on Friday.
